Mt Dhaulagiri Expedition – 8167 m – with Himalayan Alpine Adventure Trek
Mount Dhaulagiri is the seventh highest mountain in the world and is one of the most popular 8000m peaks. It lies to the north-west of Pokhara and south of the Nepal-Tibet Border. Dhaulagiri was first scaled in 1960 by a Swiss Team via the North-east Ridge. In fact, the North-east Ridge is the normal route for Dhaulagiri expeditions but ascents have been made from almost all directions. The popularity of Dhaulagiri has increased in recent years. The word ‘Dhaulagiri’ literally means The Beautiful (White/Dazzling) Mountain. The best seasons for the Dhaulagiri expeditions are spring and autumn.
Dhaulagiri along with Annapurna makes Kali Gandaki the deepest river gorge in the world. Mount Dhaulagiri is considered to be one of the most difficult mountains in the world. It is also considered an interesting peak with more than six different routes. In fact, the normal climbing route is considered a reasonable climb with only short technical climbing sections and moderate avalanche danger. The south and west faces of Dhaulagiri both feature massive drops and each rises over 4000 m from its base.
The Climb.
Dhaulagiri is not only among the highest mountains in the world but is also one of the toughest mountains. Our climb demands a very high level of physical fitness and the best quality technical equipment. The strong wind at high altitude makes climbing even more difficult. We have to cross some high passes such as French Pass and Dhampus Pass before reaching the Base Camp. We set our base camp 4740 m at Chhonbardan Glacier below the rocky knob. There will be Advanced Base Camp (ABC) and four more camps. We will set up ABC at 5300 m; this will also be used for storing our equipment and other stuff. Then, we establish our Camp 1 at 5900 m, and Camp 2 at 6400 m. We then will set our Camp 3 at 7200 m and Camp 4 at 7500 m. The ascent from Camp 1 to Camp 2 requires stretches of steep climbing. We head towards the West Ridge with steep climbing and reach Camp 3. From Camp 3, we move to the East Ridge to reach Camp 4. We finally push to attempt the summit from Camp 4.

Days 13-52: Climbing Period of Mount Dhaulagiri
Day 53: Trek from Dhampus Col
Day 54: Trek from Dhampus Col to Marpha
Day 55: Trek from Marpha to Jomsom
Day 56: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara to Kathmandu
Day 57: Final Departure
All arrival and departure transfer services to and from airports, both Domestic and International, with other necessary surface transport (by A/C Vehicles) as per itinerary.
Assistance at the International Airport by Himalayan Alpine Adventure Trek representatives while arriving and departing.
Four nights’ accommodation at 5 star hotel in Kathmandu on B/B basis and two nights’ 4 star accommodation in Pokhara on B/B basis.
3 meals a day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) with tea and coffee, along with available accommodation at hotel/ lodge / guest house/ tent for members and staff during the trek and climbing, on a twin sharing basis.
